SEAOSC "Live" Webinar Profession Development Hours (PDH)

PDH Certificates for Continuing Education:

SEAOSC offers individual PDH certificates for those individuals that view the "live" webinars and require proof of attendance at continuing education presentations, as a condition of their engineering license renewals required by different state licensing boards or professional organizations.  PDH certificates are not automatically included in the live webinar cost so as to minimize webinar purchase costs, particularly for those individuals that don't require PDH certificates.

The PDH certificate includes SEAOSC letterhead, the attendee's name, the title of the SEAOSC webinar, name of the webinar presenter, date and time of the webinar, as well as some declaration statements that must be signed.  The following link shows a sample of the two types of certificates offered: sample PDH certificates.

PDH Certificate Restrictions:

1.PDH Certificates must be filed for within 48 hours after the end of the "live" webinar.
2.The declaration statements shown on the PDH certificate, when recieved, must be signed by the viewer (and witness where required) in order for the certificate to be valid.
3.PDH certificates are not available for watching previously recorded SEAOSC Webinars at this point in time, since no tests are administrated.
SEAOSC will only allow individuals to file for and purchase a PDH certificate if they have electronically agreed to sign the declaration statement that they attended and viewed the "live" webinar in its entirety. Filing for PDH certificates for "live" webinars is only available on-line.

Viewing Webinars as a Group and PDH certificates:

SEAOSC recognizes that many engineering offices will have only one person purchase the SEAOSC "live" webinar and then have everyone else in th office get together in the company conference room to view the webinar.  SEAOSC issues two types of PDH certificates to address this issue:

Type I  PDH Certificate: Is issued to those individuals that both purchased and viewed the live webinar.
Type II PDH Certificate: Is issued to those individuals that only viewed the live webinar.

A distinction between certificates is made for two reasons:
    1. The Type I PDH Certificate filing fee is discounted in recognition of the person having purchased the actual webinar.
    2. Some state agencies require the individual to have actually purchased the webinar in their name as additional proof that they viewed the webinar.
a).Currently SEAOSC is only aware of the state of New York having this stipulation.
SEAOSC anticipates most individuals will be filing for a Type II certificate since they will likely have only viewed the "live" webinar and not purchased it.  Those individuals filing for a Type II certificate will have to obtain some information from the actual purchaser of the webinar in order to fill out the application. Those individuals wanting to file for a Type I PDH certificate, which states they actually purchased the "live" webinar, will have to have originally purchased the "live" webinar using a credit card in their name.

How to Obtain a SEAOSC "Live" Webinar PDH Certificate:
  1. After you have viewed the "live" webinar, go to the SEAOSC website "PDH Application" page.
  2. Complete the on-line PDH Certificate application process.
  3. Pay the PDH certificate filing fee on-line within 48 hours after the end of the live webinar.  (Only on-line payments are accepted, No exceptions).
  4. The PDH certificate & a single page webinar description/speaker bio will be sent to you by e-mail within 5 business days. (All "live" webinar PDH certificates are delivered by e-mail only).
  5. Printout the e-mail attachments.  Sign and date the declaration statement(s) on the PDH Certificate.
  6. Retain this certificate and webinar discription/speaker bio for your records to document your continuing education requirements.  SEAOSC does not provide replacement copies for lost PDH certificates, so keep them in a safe place.

Acceptance of SEAOSC PDH certificates by Licensing Boards and Agencies:

SEAOSC does not imply, warranty or guarantee that state licensing agencies, or other professional membership organizations, will accept SEAOSC's "live" webinar subject contents and PDH certificates as proof of the individual having attended and viewed the live webinar presentation stated on the certificate.

  1. Individuals should contact the state licensing boards and/or organizations they are applying to for license/membership renewal to verify if the SEAOSC "live" on-line webinar's subject content meets that agency's continuing education guideline requirements and the PDH certificates are considered acceptable proof of continuing education credit to that agency.

  2. SEAOSC does not administer and score tests after the webinars at this point in time which some agencies require as proof of attendance of a "live" or "previously recorded" webinar.

  3. Known Restrictions:  SEAOSC is aware of some state licensing board limitations and restrictions regarding acceptance of SEAOSC's continuing education program and SEAOSC PDH certificates, which is discussed in the following link:  (State Mandatory Continuing Education Requirements and SEAOSC PDH Certificates)

Since not all SEAOSC webinar topics are strictly related to structural engineering, it is left up to the individual to determine if the webinar content/topic is appropriate to submit for continuing education credit when renewing their license or memberships.
