The Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) and the SDC Committee invites you to join expert speakers as we dive into a three-part webinar series on Sustainable Design. This three-part series will take place on an upcoming Wednesday in April, May, and June at noon PT via Zoom.

Wednesday, May 20, 2026 Myth Busting: Case Studies to Ease Your Anxieties

The second webinar in SEAOC's three-part embodied carbon webinar series will focus on myth busting inaccurate preconceived notions or perceived risks associated with specifying and designing with lower-carbon materials. Attendees will hear from three industry experts who have successfully demonstrated embodied carbon reductions through their case studies. The webinar will focus on the City of Boulder Hospital deconstruction and reuse project, LC3 use on the California Science Building, and the prefabricated straw-insulated wall by Verdant Panel.

From Frustrating to Fun: Building a More Focused, Collaborative, and Neurodiversity-Friendly Workplace (May 28, 2026)

“Engineers—whether it’s been named or not, neurodiversity is already in the room (and it might include you). The same differences that drive innovation and deep thinking can also create friction, miscommunication, and unnecessary stress. You were trained to understand physical forces—not human behavior—but your existing curiosity and problem-solving skills translate more than you think. This interactive workshop explores how different brains show up at work and how to work with those differences instead of against them. You’ll leave with practical tools to improve collaboration, advocate for how you work best, and create a more focused and effective environment. Because neurodiversity isn’t a problem to fix—it’s an advantage to design for—and when you do, work becomes more enjoyable, creative, and productive for everyone.

The neurodiversity-friendly workplace workshop is hosted by SEAOSC’s SE3 Committee at Brandow & Johnston’s DTLA Office, 700 S. Flower St, Ste 1200, Los Angeles CA 90017 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM on May 28th. Registration is free for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Wednesday, June 24, 2026 Bring It Home: Resources for The Community

In the last webinar of SEAOC's three-part embodied carbon webinar series, we will focus on resources available to the structural engineering community to help inform and standardize sustainability principles in practice. The first part of the webinar will focus on SEAONC's intricately developed Resource Hub, a self-made wiki focused on sustainability in structural engineering resources. The second part of the webinar will focus on the recently released ASCE SEI Prestandard, which details standardized ways to model structural elements in WBLCA.
