As I begin my term as President of SEAOSC, I want to start by saying how honored and grateful I am to serve this incredible community of structural engineers. This organization has been a constant source of inspiration to me throughout my career—through the people I’ve met, the knowledge I’ve gained, and the opportunities to grow, connect, contribute and lead.
This year, I want to focus on leading with purpose.
What does that mean for SEAOSC? To me, it means aligning everything we do with our core values: advancing the practice of structural engineering, fostering community, championing resilience and innovation, and ensuring that our profession remains relevant and accessible to the next generation.
We are living in a time when the role of structural engineers is more vital than ever. From adapting to evolving building codes, to preparing for natural hazards, to mentoring students and supporting young professionals—what we do matters. But we don’t have to do it alone. SEAOSC is here to be your professional home, your support system, and your platform to lead and make a difference.
Over the coming months, I’m excited to share updates from our committees, spotlight member achievements, and highlight ways you can get involved. Whether you’re a student, an emerging professional, or a seasoned expert, your voice, your ideas, and your time are deeply valued and I want to hear from you.
As we start this new chapter together, I invite you to ask yourself:
What does purpose-driven leadership look like for you?
Whether it’s mentoring someone new, serving on a committee, or simply showing up to our events to connect with your peers, I want to encourage you to take that next step.
I’m looking forward to a year of growth, collaboration, and meaningful impact—with all of you.
With gratitude,

Maria Mohammed, S.E.
President, SEAOSC
