GAME MECHANICS

HOW IT WORKS:

When team members arrive, they will be assigned a table with the team name prominently featured. At the table, they will find all they need to start the party including snacks and supplies to create your team flag. In the first half hour, teams will complete a non-scored team survey to be turned in by 6:30pm. The Bar will be open and dinner will be available starting at 6pm.

Shortly after 6:30pm, the first of 5 trivia rounds will begin. Each round lasts approximately 10 minutes and will have a theme, including Structural Engineering, SoCal culture, and other surprise categories! Each team will be provided a question sheet and must turn in their sheet to the designated location before time is called. At the end of each round, answer sheets will be turned in and scored during which teams can visit the bar and socialize. Correct answers will then be read out loud. Additionally, within the rounds of trivia, there will be other challenges to help teams gain more points.

Between rounds, there will be time to mix and mingle with all players, visit the bar, and enjoy the food. Non-team member attendees are encouraged to cheer on their teams, socialize in the lounge area, and enjoy the festivities. There will be judges who will help identify violations of the rules, help determine correct answers during a dispute and select the winner of the Spirit Prize. The Spirit prize is awarded to the team that demonstrates the most positive engagement, animated enthusiasm and team uniform, in spite of non-competitive quiz scores. The winning “Spirit Award” team wins its own trophy.

WHAT'S AT STAKE:

Besides bragging rights, the winning team will have their name engraved on the perpetual trophy (which they have to return at the end of the year!). Additionally, the team that demonstrates the most positive engagement, animated enthusiasm and team uniform, in spite of non-competitive quiz scores, will be selected by the judges.

RULES OF PLAY:

  1. Correct spelling on the answer sheets is not always required; however, the judges must be able to recognize your answers.

  2. Each question has only one correct answer.  Submitting more than one answer or general descriptions will be scored as incorrect.

  3. Answer sheets must be turned into the judges table during the time allowed at the end of each round.

  4. Neatly print your answers.  Use the pencil provided on your table in case you have to erase.

  5. Change answers and applying Mulligans is not allowed once answer sheets have been turned in.

  6. Electronic devices or other resource materials are strictly prohibited for use during Trivia Game play.  Teams found to be violating this rule will forfeit the round.

  7. There will be no communication between teams or the public during the round.

  8.   If a team member leaves the table during the round, they may not return until after that round is complete.

  9. Don’t yell out answers.

  10. The Trivia Night emcee in consultation with the judges will have the final say on any disputed answers.

  11. In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker question between all tied tables will be used to determine the winner.

  12. Have fun!

HOW TO PREPARE:

Teams don’t need to study, but should prepare to work fast and as a team. Feel free to bring team paraphernalia, matching outfits, hats etc. There will be a Spirit Prize for the team with the most energy and spirit as decided by the judges.
