ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Jim Barnes

Jim C. Barnes, P.E., is a highly experienced SAP trainer who has been actively involved in the field since 2002. While at Cal OES, he coordinated SAP responses for various disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, showcasing his expertise in crisis management. Mr. Barnes has significantly contributed to the development of the current SAP curricula, either authoring or revising the material to ensure its effectiveness. Even in his retirement, he continues to provide valuable part-time assistance to Cal OES, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to emergency preparedness.

Marshall Pihl

Mr. Pihl, a licensed structural engineer in five states, has nearly 40 years of experience in providing professional engineering services. Skilled in new construction, renovations, and structural damage repair, he has expertise in the design and analysis of wood, concrete, masonry, and steel structures. As a Project Manager, he has collaborated with clients across California, offering structural assessments, emergency repair, forensic engineering, and professional design services. Moreover, Mr. Pihl has been an active member of professional organizations, such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), for the past 16 years.

Andrew Stuffler

Andrew Stuffler is a distinguished expert in disaster emergency services, boasting a Cal Poly SLO degree and over 30 years of experience in Building & Safety and Fire Marshal work. His extensive certifications and contributions as a Cal OES SAP Trainer of over 1,000 individuals demonstrate his dedication to disaster preparedness. As an active member of the CALBO Emergency Preparedness Committee, Andrew plays a crucial role in shaping safety policies and guidelines.
